| STARTING LINE A great article about Pat on the front page of Iditarod.com!! The concept for Team Moon started after Pat returned from participating in the 2006 Idita-Rider charity program. Pat won the opportunity to be the "cargo" for the first twelve miles of the ceremonial start in Anchorage, Alaska. Immediately upon arrival home, Pat made the statement that he was going to complete the Iditarod. His journey would be more difficult than most who wish to accomplish such a monumental odyssey. When Pat was fifteen, he was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease, ulcerative colitis. This equates to his body attempting to reject his lower intestinal system. A disease such as this requires the patient to be diligent on diet, not become over-stressed, and curtail activities to allow for frequent restroom breaks. In February of 2009, Pat was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma. On April 5, 2009, Pat became a qualifier for the 2010 Iditarod by placing 12th, in the Alaskan Taiga 300!! Pat's goal is not only to finish the Iditarod healthy, but to also prove to anyone that has an illness or affliction that anything is possible. 1,049 Miles. Across Alaska. In the Winter. With the constant support of his wife, family, and friends, this goal will be attainable. Please take a moment, browse around, and smile. The Team Moon message revolves around hopes, dreams, and desires. "You deserve what you earn" "They can take your lunch money, but they can never take your PRIDE" |
